Chapter 76
Sam walked into the house.
"What's new today?"
"I made a bracelet from some of the old jewelry I've purchased this year and a bracelet I purchased at a garage sale in the U.S. about 18 years ago."
"Was that a constructive use of your time considering you are planning to be in the shoppe by Monday?"
"It's my reminder of what I've come through to get where I am now... buying for pennies to look like a fashion plate. Women always love my 'look.'"
"You need to do the money part today... come on!"
"Yes, I know! I'm turning a new page but it's always good to remind oneself of the road it took to get there.'
"How do you feel about MTS today?"
"After that reconciliation experience with Dana yesterday, I am feeling much more confident that they will be able to meet my needs this coming year."
"So, you're no longer mad at them then?" Sam asked.
"No, they refunded me three months of 'backpay' for my 'shortpay' stance. Honestly though, Sam, I called them to reconcile because we've paid our bills so faithfully that they hadn't even noticed that I was withholding some cash to get their attention."
"So, you did the work to get that relationship on a better footing?" Sam asked.
"Yes, and I also called that beastly company that I worked for last year and purchased something from them as well."
"You did?" Sam raised his eyebrows in shock.
"Well, when God told me 'He would get me out of the clutch of the ruthless...,' that's a bit of a Jeremiah 15:19-21 paraphrase... "I just chose to believe that the 'nasty and evil' business owners will just not rule the world. That is not acceptable. It took a whole year for my knees to heal from that last bully but they're pretty good now. It was a huge 'unwavering faith' time for me."
"What are we having for dinner tonight?"
"I hope you like soup spices, coffee beans and frozen sliced apples." Simmy laughed. Sam didn't look too happy and not nearly as amused as Simmy was.
"Don't stoop to cheap whining, remember?" Simmy delivered the 'brutal facts' message.
"We've got oatmeal, bread and peanut butter in the cupboard. We're doing great!"
Peanut Butter Sam's shoulders lifted slightly.
"And we don't have to pay this bill because we got the back-pay for 29+ years of loyalty.
