Better Marriage Canoodle

Chapter 77
Sam and Simmy had attended 'Laugh your way to a better Marriage' on Friday night.
The 'stronger together' byline was strung throughout Mark Gungors' very animated depiction of marriage. The couple sitting in front of Sam and Simmy were as entertaining as Mark.
Thank you Mark for delivering the brutal facts about women doing too much give... give... give...
and men doing too much take... take... take... The tools that Mark offered were somewhat contractual in application and it reminded Simmy of Dr. L who had once said, "Some Christians think that you should do 'nothing for reward' as it might seem nonspiritual."
Bah Humbug! Everybody does things for reward and mutual benefit!
"Hey Sam! If Marks' position on marriage is accurate, then the marriage of a couple... ergo, the marriage of joining a church... ergo,... the marriage of Christ and His Church... is a give and take situation.
The church has often wanted people who come in the doors to, fjrst, buy into everything and then discover the benefits but a buy-in most often happens in stages."
Grunt! Sam still had his newspaper in front of his face.
"You buy a seminar seat... you get a snack.
You buy a car... you get a ride.
You buy a book... you get knowledge.
It's the 'oreo cookie' concoction."
"Mmm Hmm," Sam was in his 'nothing box.'
"It has been a refreshing experience to have the pastor of the church we currently  go to, offer to partner, through prayer... (for anybody who doesn't think that's a sacrifice, try it), in helping our dreams come true.
"When I think of how many young adults I've invested in, so the world could be a better place,... without getting a whole lot out of that,... yet... well, I just think we're going to bloom into receiving some of that return investment in the next few years. What do you think, Sam?"
"What?" Sam looked up from his newspaper.
First Snow
"You're breaking your end of the 'canoodle barter.'" Simmy warned.
"There are some really good pictures outside. You might want to grab your camera if you want to get a couple of shots before it melts."
Simmy looked at Sam with suspicion. He was a master at 'getting back into his nothing box.'
