Questionable Le Corbusier Spectacles

Chapter 79
Some days have more questions than answers.
Ed had not given Simmy a key to the 'rental place.'
Simmy phoned to ask, 'Why?'
"Well, I haven't checked it out to make sure that the smell isn't in there anymore. I aired it out on Friday."
"It is November 1st. Are you leasing the place or aren't you?" Simmy asked.
"Well, no, I don't think so," Ed said.
"Why didn't you just tell me this on Friday instead of letting me think I had the space, as we agreed?" Simmy asked.
Ed of 'no direct answer' didn't answer.
Will a man, who is not committing, and has possibly lied to you, twice, actually come through? Or should you run.... as fast as you can in the other direction?
Ed, Ed, Ed,... what kind of man are you?
Jim, the maintenance man let them into the space to get their broom and equipment that they had left there on Thursday.
Just as they were leaving, Jim looked at Simmy and said, "Go to his office and talk to him. His office is on 'Small Shrill Pipe' Street.
Simmy looked into old Jims' eyes, "No guile! Light brown eyes rimmed in blue- very unusual. Those eyes didn't flinch as Simmy pierced them with her own blue ones."
"Alright, we'll go see him at the office."
When they got there, Ed's old Lincoln was parked in the back, sandwiched between his office building and his 'Events' building. Both looked like they had seen 'better days.'
Perhaps Ed was getting old and should release the reigns to a more youthful generation.
Ed could not be found and Simmy didn't have a good feeling about that. The young receptionist seemed a bit worried too when she said, "He answers his phone 99% of the time."
"Did you check to make sure he's not lying helpless somewhere on the floor. I met him the other day. He's not that young anymore."
After Sam went and checked all the rooms, the front phone rang and the receptionist answered. It was quickly apparent that he was on the other end.
Simmy and Sam went back to the front office. Sam picked up a brochure and pointed to Simmy, "He didn't tell the truth about the cost of the rental space. This is the original price, not what he told you the other day."
The receptionist hung up and said, "He says he will meet you there at 1:30. He said he is just at Canadian Tire."
Simmy noticed that the young girl was careful to make sure the lie being told could be caught if one listened carefully.
Twenty minutes later, Sam and Simmy were back at the rental place and Ed was just getting out of his Lincoln.
After saying that he wanted to get a furnace-man in to check on the furnaces, he said that they should wait until next Monday.
Sam and Simmy left,... with more questions than answers.
Why did Simmy have this picture of Le Corbusier's spectacles???
