Chapter 98 (cont'd)
Deborah was in a perky, French kind of laissez- faire mood and it was interesting. Nothing too intense, which was really nice for a change.
Simmy had spent the day making a huge wreath and it was just finished when Deborah walked in with warm cookies... cookies made with potato chips.
Plain potato chips were not Simmy's favorite but barbecue potato chip cookies would likely be even more odd. She ate one warm and it was... okay.
An hour or so after Deborah left, Carolina walked in. She was betwixt and between with her impending divorce. Emotions chased each other onto her face, across her face, wedged into her folded arms, shot out from her eyes... daring Simmy to totally upset the apple cart.
Simmy had no interest in a fight... she tried to ask reasonable questions and stay out of the line of fire.
Relationships... the messiest part of life... and the sweetest.
Darn it!
A stop at Safeway yielded the cutest part of the day. At the express check-out a, happily shaped, man served them.
"How are you today?" Simmy asked him before he could ask her that question.
He responded with, "Livin' the Dream!"
Simmy was so taken aback that she laughed but then quickly said, "That sounded a little sarcastic!"
"Re...ally?" The sarcasm was distinctive now.
"What were you doing before you were livin' the dream?" Simmy asked.
"Oh, I wasn't on meds then!"
His deadpan delivery only made the exchange of social comedy all the more funny.
"Thanks for the entertainment," Simmy said as they left the store.
