The Violet Ballet

Novel Notes...
Letter from Richard... 1940
Dearest Lucy,
I went for a walk in the rain today. I happened upon a pot of violets, a perfect ink blotch violet and another one with its head drooping beside it. I am the drooping one, missing you so as I do. One cannot but feel a dread here in the city of Metz. Even with guns and equipment being removed, there is still a dark and rainy dread upon my soul.
Frederic looked at the bobbing of the violets as the rain and wind gently moved them and said, 'It is like a Violet Ballet in the midst of a violent one.'
Enough melancholy!
I'm sure you are working hard for the Red Cross efforts as we are working for science. My hope is that we will not suffer shame through the uses of our work.
All my love,
Richard
