Back before the internet and modern convenience... I had a huge crush on a man who, I only found out today... is French!
I know I still cannot tell my mother, even today. "You are Dutch, you vill marry a Dutchman, dat is all."
Wow! I can still hear that dictum in the back of my mind.
Growing up surrounded by wheat fields and the smell of a chicken barn, I was a 'closet Top 40' fan.
After I asked for, and received, a transistor radio, for Christmas one year, I would write down lyrics when I really loved a song and, it usually took a few times of waiting to hear that song again to get all the lyrics... no way to pause or rewind a transistor.
I think my Mom was really worried about how I would turn out in life as I listened to all the pop music I could get on that little radio, hidden away in the country.
I always knew, quite immediately, if I loved a song and I could almost always pick out a song that would go to #1 on the charts.
Just today, I remembered a song that I had to keep under my mattress... lyrics tucked away like they were something the preacher can't know about.
Don't know... 'What the hell I got' was one of my most favorite songs.
I had to watch where I would sing it... I didn't want my folks confiscating my transistor.
Seriously, I was 12ish years old with a crush on a man that I thought was Italian... Pagliaro sounds Italian, no?
It doesn't matter, he still vasn't Dutch.
And now, aviator shades are making a comeback... Yes!
