Overnight Success

Simmy purchased some jewel toned fabrics and set her fingers a- working. It took a few hours but...
when the new cushions were ready to be sold, it was a fine feeling indeed. Some people might call this overnight success but Simmy just called it hard work.
... and more hard work. Beautiful creations give the heart pleasure though.

Entrepreneur or Entrepoorneur

Oldest construction son walked in the door with a current bridal magazine... just in time for the weekend sale. As Simmy browsed through the pages she spotted a piece of vintage fabric she had just purchased last month. Simmy often spotted her purchases on television shows and in magazines. It had become natural and she wasn't always surprised anymore.
After all, most people didn't really know or think too much about these things but... Shh, don't tell everyone... but, maybe just a few people should know that... most things come out of factories and are distributed around the globe, sometimes with a fresh moniker to fool you a bit so that, as Carolina had so recently said, "I have a friend who won't buy anything unless it has a huge price tag on it! She only feels she has purchased something valuable if it is very expensive!"
Simmy had been thinking about this statement and, firstly, that woman should come to her sale. Yes sir! Simmy would have many items she could buy... like the trees in the previous blog.
But seriously folks, oldest construction son was finding out about life in a interesting little way... he was shopping for pots and pans because he was planning on moving out soon and setting up his own little pad.
So, Sam had insider information... and you thought only the Wall Street people had that... Nope!
The men who load and unload your freight every day have all the insider information.
Why? You ask!
Well, they see where the freight comes from and where it goes... kind of demystifies the retail industry a bit.
So, if this entrepoorneur is working towards entrepreneur... the only thing standing in my way is an accountant that took too much of my loss last year... Shame on them!... taking advantage of the little girl/ guy!
Don't worry! I can fire my accountant! They haven't supported me anyway!
And so, to end with a few quotes from the movie 'Defiance' which I watched just this weekend,...

Shimon
'How about carpenters? Any boot makers? Seamstresses?'

Arrival #1
'I am an accountant.'

Silence and then Shimon says in a deadpan and dismissive voice...
'That should come in handy. Next...'

Making it!

If I was employed... I'd be fired! It took all day to make this Bollywood tree...
and this Hollywood tree. So, if I wished to make minimum wage which is $10 an hour, I'd have to sell each of these trees for about $50 apiece.
Any takers?

Miracle of...

Sunday morning- Simmy got up on and put the coffee on. As predicted, it was raining but only slightly. With matrimonial cake in hand, Simmy went to check on her blog. It never ceases to amaze me which 'Search keywords' will bring people to your blog.
'j m quote on changing your husband' was sitting there under that category and, at first, Simmy thought it was funny... but then, she started to think of all the trials she had been through in a very tough relationship with Sam. So,... she wrote a letter... to the woman who typed in the 'Search Keywords' quote on changing your husband.
Dear Suffering Wife,
It takes a miracle... yes, it does. Unfortunately, the miracle will probably happen over a long span of years. That is sometimes the problem with miracles. They don't happen quite as quickly as we expect. Now, you are probably wondering what is in that Miracle bag.
I'm going to tell you!
First, a sore back and knees from,... you guessed it... praying for a miracle.
Second, the Bible you buy for that stubborn man cause you know nobody but God has the power to change him. Warning- He may take that gift as a judgment but only at first! When he starts to read it, he'll get all caught up in the adventure, sometimes quite gory... men love a good gory adventure...
Third, hair products that can change your hair back to the color it was before you started... "Wishing and hoping and thinking and praying..." Turn on Dionne Warwick and sing along!
Fourth- maybe a book by Stormie O'Martian... Now you and I know that the day the honeymoon was over you found a martian in your bed where your new husband had been and we also know how stormy things got after that so you might as well read a book by that girl called... The Power of a Praying Wife.
Fifth- feathers... lots of feathers... some for the cushion you're going to kneel on every day and...
Hey, a feather boa for when you've got a good attitude about all this stormy stuff.
Sixth- Something to help you 'unclench' your teeth from biting back your words... Medication? A small bottle of wine... occasionally... Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding so if that is where all the trouble started, it was Jesus Himself who gave us all the wine solution.
Seventh- Band aids...
Now, I'm not trying to be overly dramatic here... that scar just happens to be there at an opportune time for me to bring in a little symbolism.
Really, it is from dropping a dot of hot glue in my hand as I make all the stuff for my Christmas Sale which, so far, has brought in a whopping $50 in three days... not counting the money earned from baking. That is what the other scars are from on the arms.

P.S. Wikipedia defines 'Entrepreneur' as... 'an owner or manger of a business enterprise who makes money through risk and initiative... and accepts full responsibility for the outcome.'

Let me tell you, so far, there has been lots of initiative and risk and not much money but I am still taking full responsibility, every day, for the outcome.
Sounds like marriage, huh?

Warm November Evening

"I've always wanted a Christmas wreath on the front of the Hummer," Simmy yelled out to Sam who was in the back yard.
"You do not want one of those. They look all gross and muddy halfway through the winter when they're hanging off the front of semi trucks," Sam was rather vehement.
Simmy started chuckling as she realized that Sam must think she was serious.
"What ya making there?" Deborah asked.
She and her husband were out walking Henry...
Now Henry seemed to want to play with the family cat but, alas, the family cat seemed very horrified, quite literally, by the thought.
Oh dear! The family cat needs to be a bit more sociable. Don't you think?

Bake, Bake, Bake... Bake, Bake

Simmy got up early... ish to bake, bake, bake. Three pounds of ___________ later, the pie crusts were ready and being filled for the day. (The blank represents the name of the product but I don't advertise for anyone specific unless...)
The pumpkin pies were just out of the oven when the first customer arrived.
"The apple pies are still in the oven," Simmy told construction son.
After they came out of the oven Simmy said, "If anyone wants more than this today, they have to order."
She threw some cinnamon bun dough into the mixer and then sighed as she decided, "That is all I'm making today. If it all sells, tomorrow they can come back... or order."
Simmy stretched her aching back... as she pulled out the tray of cinnamon buns... Ahh!
Deborah bought three hot out of the pan.
She's had them before so she must like them if she's buying them.

Mediterranean Pie Sale

Simmy worked hard to chop, slice, dice, saute, roll out fresh pie dough... all to make a delectable dish called Mediterranean Pie.

The Christmas Sale was going to have red and green ornamental decor. Check previous 'Christmas Cove' blog.

...and red and green edible, delicious Mediterranean Pie.
It was a perfect dish to bring to any Christmas party or brunch... Mmm Good!
... or just treat oneself to a complete Canada Food Guide healthy homemade dinner.
